Managing Conflict - 1 day

Conflict is a natural part of our lives - everyone has different views and perspectives to offer and therefore conflict could be said to be an inevitable consequence of interacting with others. It can be stressful and de-energising if we don't know how to handle it. It can be demotivating if it remains unresolved.

Conflicting needs and goals, conflicting views and opinions, conflicting ideas all need to be dealt with constructively and calmly to get the best outcome for everyone.

This workshop will broaden your range of skills and options in situations of conflict and disagreement and will help you to understand your own responses. You will develop an understanding of why and how conflict arises, and then establish a personal strategy for dealing with it.

Key Objectives

To:

  • understand the causes of conflict and why conflict is 'normal'
  • understand the different stages of conflict and how to deal with them
  • learn how to minimise the likelihood of conflict arising
  • examine current strategies for dealing with conflict at work and at home using the Thomas Kilman Conflict ModeTM Questionnaire
  • consider new strategies and experiment with other approaches
  • practice collaborative approaches to bring about 'win-wins'
  • appreciate the relationship between conflict and creativity in the workplace
