Introduction to Management - 2 days

This workshop is ideal for first time managers and for those who want to refresh their basic skills and understanding about what it takes to be a good manager.

Using the Strengths Deployment Inventory TM as a tool for understanding everyday interactions between managers and their staff, delegates will learn the key requirements of good management practice from objective setting to delegation, from time management to managing communication and to ensuring the balance between task, team and individual. In addition, we will consider the issues surrounding motivation, ‘push' and ‘pull' theories, basic influencing techniques, performance and stakeholder management.

To:

  • understand and evaluate the differences and personal preferences for leading, managing and coaching
  • examine the basic principles beneath the concept of balancing task, team & individual and the management tasks within each
  • consider personal influencing styles and the role of clear communication and planning
  • examine personal strategies for managing workload and time
  • consider the implications of the Strength Deployment Inventory results for each individual's likely approach towards managing others
  • understand the need to manage stakeholders effectively
  • create a plan of action for personal next steps and a ‘ next steps' development plan
