How did you first get into coaching?

Whilst working at PricewaterhouseCoopers, I was asked to help some high performing Directors and Senior Managers progress their careers toward Partner. After some early success in these relationships I found I had a good combination of commercial acumen, deep listening skills and non-directive approach that people valued.

How would you describe your coaching approach?

I mix a keen behavioural intuition and insight with sound commercial pragmatism. Some see me as ‘spikey’, others as ‘different’ and innovative. I listen deeply to the whole person, bring robust challenge and support, give difficult messages with empathy and offer practical insights and experiments to create change.

What are your areas of specialism?

I specialise in working with individuals and teams drive forward their business endeavours with greater pace.  I help them learn more about their leadership and how to express it; their impact & influence and how to communicate it. I work with high performing people who strive for more.

What do you enjoy about coaching?

Everything. I find it inspirational to work with successful people who want to stretch themselves and their performance yet further. It’s a privilege to be trusted, to hear their stories about their lives and careers.  It’s fabulous to help people move forward in their careers, finding greater fulfilment and happiness.

What kinds of people in what roles have you coached before?

I have coached people from numerous disciplines and roles; MD’s to business owners, Head Teachers and aspirational Senior Managers.  I have worked with those striving to step-up to higher roles and those wishing to step-aside and hand-over.  I have coached friends and colleagues. I still struggle to coach my kids!

'My initial expectations of coaching were fairly modest. I hoped that Paul would be able to give me some pointers to help with my 'issue list'.  In fact we have gone much further than I expected.  Overall, I feel more confident, less stressed and much more effective.'
